We have extensive research on our family which is the Powell's of Stanton, Dancyville, and Brownsville Tennessee in Haywood county. The name Short has surfaced in our tree at least 3 times.

The beginnings of our tree starts from Virgil Powell 1824 and Martha Ann Short. later one of my great grandmother's aunts Noila Powell was married to Orange Short, Now my grandmother remembers a Orange Short. Our Surnames are Peterson, Vaulx, Powell (Powell), Gilliam, Mcbride, Morris, Boyd, Ballard, Douglass, Douglas, Hudson, Miller, Turner, Jetter, Nelson, Jones, Short, Thompson, Williams.

As far as I know there are 3 family reunions held Powell/Peterson Powell/Boyd/Ballard Taylor Powell & Martha Miller family Reunions. I'm was just trying to figure out who was Martha Ann Shorts parents were or did she pick up the name from the owner or was the owner here parents? but needless to say, your website is so inspiring and well put together. It really motivates the Powell family to gather up all the documents and compose a well designed and specific site. Great job on everyone that contributed!!!

I found in my family records for James and Carrie Turner 1880 Census record Jon Short and Nat Short Black males 16 years old. And Roberta Short 13 and Peter Short 8 race MU. Are they relatives of yours. They are listed as nieces and nephews to my great grandparents James and Carrie. The census place is District 3 Lauderdale, Tn.
I believe Lauderdale County was originally a part of Haywood.

I do not know, the surnames on this site are also apart of my family surnames
